Dr. Teela Tomassetti (PsyD)- she/her-

Founder & Registered Provisional Psychologist

Teela is a Registered Provisional Psychologist through the College of Alberta Psychologists. Teela recently received her Doctorate (Psy.D) and completed her doctoral research at California Southern University. Her research consisted of a qualitative study utilizing semi-structured interviews with therapists' experiences supporting birth trauma, the fawn trauma response and mistreatment by providers. It is currently in the process of publication.

Teela is also excited to share that she is the Co-Founder of the Global Birth and Perinatal Trauma Research Collaborative and continues to pursue research in the perinatal field.

Teela has been a counsellor since 2005, supporting those with sexual assault, domestic violence, tragic losses and addiction concerns before becoming a registered provisional psychologist in 2021. For the last few years, Teela has specialized in birth trauma and identifies as a birth trauma survivor of provider mistreatment and an excessive hemorrhage that threatened her life.

Teela works from a trauma-informed lens and believes in client-centered therapy. She walks alongside her clients, and her approach sets out to empower those she works with while providing a warm, safe, compassionate space. Teela has also acquired her Perinatal Mental Health training through Postpartum Support International and the Postpartum Stress Centre. She has also sought out additional training on fertility struggles, endometriosis, PCOS, pregnancy and infant loss.

Her primary modality is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); she is also trained in Advanced EMDR, which means she can offer the Recent Events Protocol, Group EMDR and Couples EMDR. She also completed another EMDR training on Integrating Somatic Approaches in Trauma work.

However, she shares that her heart will always be with Narrative Therapy, which views “the problem is the problem, the person is not the problem.” The social justice lens that often shows up in Teela's works is Narrative Therapy. Her other primary modality is Compassion-Focused Therapy, which she believes is central to working with trauma.

Teela is an international conference speaker and has offered workshops to providers in-person and online on incorporating trauma-informed care into their roles and systems. She is also a published author of chapters on birth trauma from “The Pain Mothers Must Never Expose” and “Gone Feral: The Undoing of Normative Feminity.” You can also see her as a keynote speaker at the Collaborative Doula Conference in Ontario May 2025.

Teela offers support to those struggling with fertility, IUD trauma, pregnancy and infant loss, paternal mental health, endometriosis, PCOS, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She also feels passionately about “helping the helper” and loves supporting nurses in managing the stress and demands for their lives. She offers individual therapy in person and online support for all of Alberta as well as professional consultation across the world.

You can follow her @theteaonbirthtrauma, where she has worked hard to build a safe community for over 45,000 birth trauma survivors.

Megan Ivancic (she/her)-Registered Psychologist

Megan is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Over the past ten years, Megan has worked alongside children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced various forms of trauma, particularly sexual abuse. Although she began her career as a Child and Youth Care Worker, she was quickly inspired to return to school and complete a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Now working as a Psychologist, she deeply appreciates the courage and strength it takes to ask for help. She values the power of human connection as a vital foundation for healing.

After becoming a mother and navigating her own challenges with postpartum anxiety and rage, Megan felt a strong calling to pursue specialized training in this area. Through both personal experiences and professional development, she discovered how many parents were struggling in silence. She understands firsthand the sting of shame that can accompany postpartum rage and the overwhelming intensity of emotions that often arise during this period. These insights have shaped her belief that society must have more open conversations about perinatal mental health and the stigma surrounding it. She advocates for providing new parents with the support they need during what is often one of the most vulnerable times in their lives. Megan recognizes the challenges and feelings of overwhelm that can occur during the transition to parenthood and believes people deserve to be met with safety, empathy, and compassion.

In her therapeutic work, Megan strives to create a space where all emotions are welcome—especially the ones that feel the heaviest. She believes that individuals should feel safe and free from judgment when discussing sensitive topics. As a Psychologist, Megan is committed to equipping her clients with tools to regulate their emotions in order to move towards healing. Her dual perspective as both a clinician and a parent fuels her passion for advocating for perinatal mental health and challenging the misconceptions that often surround it. This passion ultimately led her to join the team at RPTC, where she works alongside other dedicated service providers.

At RPTC, Megan is passionate about supporting individuals who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss, birth trauma, perinatal mental health challenges, and IUD trauma. She works with adolescents (ages 12 and up) and adults, using an integrative approach tailored to each client’s unique needs. She is trained as an EMDR therapist and incorporates techniques from Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Compassion Focused Therapy in her practice. In addition to this, Megan is currently completing training through Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Trainings (CPMHT).
